New England Biolabs launches new Gibson Assembly Cloning Kit

New England Biolabs, a provider of enzymes for molecular biology applications, has launched a new Gibson Assembly Cloning Kit using Gibson Assembly approach.

The kit is built by combining the Gibson Assembly Master Mix along with NEB 5-alpha competent E. coli, enabling fragment assembly and cloning in less than two hours.

In addition, Gibson Assembly enables the rapid assembly of multiple DNA fragments using a one-step, isothermal reaction.

The kit, developed by Daniel Gibson at the J Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), is a part of a program sponsored by Synthetic Genomics.

Synthetic Genomics SVP Fernanda Gandara said compared to the traditional cloning methods the alternative method delivers additional speed, flexibility and ease-of-use.

"SGI is pleased to expand the portfolio of products commercialized with NEB and to further enable scientific progress in the fields of synthetic biology and DNA cloning," Gandara added.

In addition to cloning kit, the company has developed NEBuilder, an online primer design tool, specifically for use in Gibson Assembly.
